drop no.11 ~ february 2024
A brief drop for a busy month featuring an original string quartet composition.
Last month,
shared his original composition “Helvellyn”, written in Dorian mode. Listening to the piece and reading about his motivations for composing it reminded me of “Quartessence”, a string quartet piece I wrote that is also based on the Dorian mode. Above is a version I played live with an additional viola part substituting the cello.Listen to the original arrangement with midi cello here.

Featuring 3 sets of cool fiddlers my Instagram algorithm served to me.
“Trip to Dingle” by Scottish Fish
A Celtic folk quintet based in Boston, the way Scottish Fish play in sync while also giving each other space to shine gives me chills in all the best ways.
“Fiddle Disco” by Elias Alexander
Skip to about 1 minute in for the beat drop. 🔥
whatever the hell this is by Rushad Eggleston, self-proclaimed cello goblin
Shoutout to Matt for inspiring me to share “Quartessence” this month! Listen to and read about “Helvellyn” if you haven’t already.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope to see you again at the end of next month! Find more inspiring fiddlers here.
