the EP is finally coming
Sharing some release plans, including a secret website. – Featuring 2 live performances I loved and a Gujarati track to end the year.
Oh yes, I’m using actual titles now instead of “drop no.XX ~ month YEAR”. I realised it didn’t make sense to title them that way when even I wouldn’t feel compelled to read anything with such an impersonal introduction. I’ve gone through my archives and retitled all my previous drops accordingly.
On to brass tacks, I’m delighted to announce the release plans for my EP! I’ve already finished the initial mix and will clean them up again a couple more times before bringing this project to a close, imperfections and all.
The EP is called diary of a younger girl and will be released under my pseudonym Yen Océane in March 2025. If you’re subscribed to this newsletter, all you need to do is reply to the email I send on 31 March 2025, and I will send you a download link with all 5 tracks.
Although the tracks will be available to anyone on my list for free, I’m also working on paid tiers for the EP release that will include extra content like bonus tracks, handwritten notes and lyric breakdowns.
Here’s a sneak peek of a bonus website I’m working on for anyone who purchases the album via these paid tiers. I’ve decided to host it on Padlet for now as I like that anyone can interact with the blocks and leave comments without creating an account. (Say no to signing up for more things than you need!!) You can pre-order the first tier which will give you access to the website here.
I’m pretty excited about this project because I love putting together websites (I coded my first website from scratch and hosted it on Tumblr). So even if this flops, I will still have fun compiling my documentation on creating this EP somewhere for future reference.

Mr Sun Plays Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite by Mr Sun
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker is one of the most beautiful works of composition I’ve ever heard, and I love discovering and listening to reimagined versions of the melodies in the work. The fiddler here is Darol Anger, who I got to meet and learn from at fiddle camp in August! In between soloing, Darol also utilises the “chop”, a rhythmic technique he helped pioneer. Listen to the album in full here.
“Between Two Points” by David Gilmour with Romany Gilmour
A fan of the original song by the Montgolfier Brothers and surprised that it was not a hit, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour decided to cover it on his latest album Luck and Strange, including his daughter Romany on vocals and harp. The original was already haunting in its own right, but with Romany’s clear voice and ostinato harp, it becomes hypnotic.
“ચણિયાચોળી” (CHANIYACHOLI) by Jigardan Gadhavi ft. Yati
We’re ending the year on a celebratory note. I stumbled on this Gujarati track via an Instagram reel and just loved the drums. I’m guessing it’s from a movie, I have no idea what the song is about, the only thing I know for sure is that it makes me want to get up and dance.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope to see you again at the end of the month! Here’s a picture of my dad’s new dog, Captain (named after Captain America, who might be renamed because my dad just watched the new Superman trailer).
LoL,
rae
